Idina Menzel to Perform ‘Let It Go’ from Frozen at the Oscars
Actress and singer Idina Menzel is scheduled to perform the song “Let it Go” from Disney’s hit film Frozen during this year’s Oscars. The announcement came from the show’s producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron Tuesday.
Menzel posted on Twitter Tuesday morning confirming the news, “It’s really happening. I’m singing on the Oscars! Surreal. Thank u frozen family and Oscar producers for this incredible opportunity.”
While this performance will mark the first time Menzel will sing the song for a global live audience, she has already gotten some practice singing the tune in for other audiences. Menzel and fellow Frozen cast members Kristin Bell and Santino Fontana took the stage last Sunday in Los Angeles as part of a live cabaret. Her solo performance of “Let it Go” warned her standing ovation from the crowd.
Frozen has two Oscar nominations this year in the categories of Best Original Song (“Let it Go”) and Best Animated Film. The film is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and has proved to be a major success for Disney. It earned more than $900 million at the box office worldwide. February 25th the movie will be available for download with a Blueray/DVD release date set for March 18th.
Audiences can catch the Oscars live on Sunday, March 2 on ABC.
