‘Once,’ ‘Newsies,’ ‘Wicked’ Hit Baltimore’s Hippodrome in 2014/15 Season
Broadway Across America has recently announced the 2014-15 Hippodrome Broadway Series. The season, which marks the 100 year anniversary of the historic Hippodrome Theatre, will include Broadway hits such as Once, Newsies, and Wicked among several others.
President of the Hippodrome Jeff Daniel shared in a statement, “It’s hard to beat a season with The Book of Mormon and War Horse, but I think we’ve got a strong season with all sorts of things in it. To say there’s something for everyone is an understatement.”
The upcoming season’s package includes three shows that are currently running on Broadway: Tony Award winner Once, Tony Award winner Newsies, and Tony Award winner Pippin. Hit musicals Chicago, Annie, and Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage are also set to be a part of the 2014-15 season. I Love Lucy Live on Stage will also join the lineup in addition to Wicked which is returning to Baltimore for the third time.
This season subscribers will once again have flexibility and priority. All subscribers will receive their same seats for the three season multi-week engagements and will have the opportunity to choose three or four limited engagement shows as part of their six or seven show package. Subscribers will also be given the first go at purchasing Wicked tickets.
“We’re trying to reach a broad demographic. There’s always a couple of shows I wish we could have booked. It would have been fun to sprinkle Kinky Boots into our season. We’ll still get Kinky Boots [in the future], but it’s hard getting some shows with D.C. competing,” said Daniel in a statement. He went on to share, “We have adjusted the model. We used to emphasize two-week engagements. Now we are booking more one-week runs, which producers like. That means we are getting some hotter recent shows a season or two sooner. We couldn’t get Once, Newsies, and Pippin if we didn’t have that flexibility.”
