‘Mamma Mia!’ Returns to Las Vegas for Extended Stay in May
The smash-hit musical Mamma Mia! is set to return to Las Vegas in Spring 2014. It will play at the new Tropicana with an open-ended run.
Show creator and producer Judy Craymer shared her excitement about the show’s return saying, “It’s so exciting that Mamma Mia! is returning to fabulous Las Vegas. We are so thrilled to be invited to the New Tropicana. It is the perfect hotel for us to bring the original show back to the Strip amongst the glamour and excitement of this legendary playground.”
Vice President and Chief Maketing Officer for the Tropicana, Fred Harmon shared in a statement, “Our newly renovated, state-of-the-art Tropicana Theater is the perfect venue for the return of the show that set the standard for Broadway in Las Vegas.”
Mamma Mia! tells the story of a carefree mother whose less than spotless past catches up to her as her daughter’s upcoming wedding soon approaches. Since its inception, Mamma Mia! has been seen worldwide by more than 50 million people. It is currently celebrating its 12th year on Broadway with more than 4,000 performances which has made it one of Broadway’s top selling musical productions. The original West End production of the show is currently in its 13th year with more than 5,000 performances in London. Additionally, the international tour of the show has made stops in more than 50 cities and has been seen by nearly 4 million people worldwide. A film adaptation of the production which was produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman ranks as the most successful movie musical of all time, grossing $600 million worldwide.
The show is directed by Phyllida Lloyd. It features an amazing creative team which includes: Catherine Johnson with writing, Anthony Van Laast with choreography, Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus with music and lyrics, Mark Thompson with production design, Howard Harrison with lighting design, Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken with sound design, and Martin Koch with musical supervision, arrangements, and additional material.
