Gwyneth Paltrow Producing Broadway Musical Based on the 80s Girl Group The Go Go’s
It seems that Gwyneth Paltrow is taking steps towards conquering in yet another field. The Hollywood starlet, talented actress, organic chef, and popular addition to the show Glee may now be able to add the credit of musical producer to her list of accomplishments. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Paltrow is currently in negotiations to produce a musical based upon the life and music of the iconic 80’s pop group The Go-Go’s with Donovan Leitch and Rick Ferrari.
The legendary group The Go-Go’s is composed of Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine, Gina Schock, and Paula Jean Brown. The group rose to fame during the early 1980’s and paved the way for many after them. Their debut album “Beauty and the Beat” steadily climbed the Billboard 200 chart where it eventually reached number one. It remained there for six consecutive weeks. Since then the group has sold more than 7 million albums. The all female group spent the summer touring in the United States wowing crowds with their classic hits. Such songs include “Vacation,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” and the ever popular “We Got the Beat.” It has been suggested that the group may write new songs for the production, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
Should negotiations prove to be successful, Paltrow’s production of The Go-Go’s themed show would not be her first encounter with the theatre. Paltrow made her West End debut in Proof, and went on to star in the subsequent film adaptation of the same name. She also won an Academy Award for her performance in Shakespeare in Love. Additional film and television credits include Contagion, Country Strong, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Running with Scissors, Se7en, and The Royal Tenenbaums.
