‘Annie’ Sets Broadway Closing Date for January 5

After what will be more than 400 successful stage performances, the Broadway production of Annie will come to a close January 5, 2014.

The production’s revival in earlier months was a huge success on Broadway. It was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. When the show closes, it will have showed 38 previews and 487 regular performances at the Palace Theatre since its opening November 8, 2012. However, recent competition from kid friendly shows such as Matilda: The Musical, which opened in April, has led to a slow but steady decline in sales for the show.

The production is directed by three-time Tony Award winner James Lapine. It features a book and a score from Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin. Classic songs from the show’s score include “Maybe,” “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You”, and show favorite “Tomorrow”.

The outstanding cast is composed of Taylor Richardson and Sadie Sink who alternate the title role of Annie, while other members include Faith Prince as Miss Hannigan, Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks,  Jenni Barber as Grace Farrell, Clarke Thorell as Rooster Hannigan, J. Elaine Marcos as Lily St. Regis, and Sunny playing the role of the dog Sandy. The orphan cast is composed of Gaby Bradbury, Amaya Braganza, Skye Alyssa Friedman, Tyrah Skye Odoms, Emily Rosenfeld, and Brooklyn Shuck. The production also features Jane Blass, Mary Callanan, Jeremy Davis, Merwin Foard, Tessa Grady, Joel Hatch, Danette Holden, Fred Inkley, Amanda Lea LaVergne, Gavin Lodge, Alexandra Matteo, Keven Quillon, David Rosetti, Sarah Solie, Ryan VanDenBoom, and Matt Wall.

Though its Broadway run will end in January, the show will see another tomorrow. An American tour of the production is in the works for the 2014-2015 season as we announced back in June.
