Kristin Chenoweth May Star in Broadway Revival of ‘Hello Dolly!’

After sharing on Twitter last year that she would love to play the title role in Hello, Dolly!, Kristin Chenoweth’s dreams may very well come true. As reported by the New York Post, Chenoweth is in talks to be cast in the Broadway revival of the play. If chosen, she would play Dolly Levi in the play over the next two years.

The show is to be directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Warren Carlyle who is known for his work in Chaplin and Finian’s Rainbow. It is based on the 1955 play by Thornton Wilder entitled The Matchmaker, Hello, Dolly!. The plays tells the story of matchmaker Dolly Levi who is based in New York. A film adaptation of the play was created in 1969 and starred the legendary Barbara Streisand. Song titles included within the show are “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Before the Parade Passes By” and “It Only Takes a Moment.”

The Nederlander Organization has pursued the play’s revival for quite some time now. The show’s revival marks the first time since 1955 that the production would be revisited.

Other actresses have been rumored to play the title role in the play such as the talented Queen Latifah and the well accomplished Bette Midler. While those names have come and gone, Chenoweth’s name has remained. She would be following in the footsteps of the great Carol Channing who originated the title role.

A Tony Award winner herself for her role in ‘You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown’ and a nominee for her work in Wicked , Kristin Chenoweth is very accredited as an actress on Broadway.  Promises, Promises, The Apple Tree, Epic Proportions and Steel Pier. Her other credits include television appearances in “Glee,” “Submissions Only” and “Pushing Daisies”, while some of her film credits include  Rio 2, Running With Scissors and Stranger than Fiction.
