Eastwood Eyes John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vicent Piazza for ‘Jersey Boys’ Film

Rumors of a coming film adaptation of “Jersey Boys” have been circulating for some time now, and now it appears that Broadway actors John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza are being looked at to star in the Clint Eastwood-directed film.

Variety reports that no offers have yet been made to the actors, but that Eastwood, Graham King and Warner Bros. have given the OK to move forward with the choices. All but Piazza have appeared in the stage version of “Jersey Boys,” and Piazza has had quite a bit of stage experience, though he is now best known for his role on “Boardwalk Empire.” If the casting moves forward, Young would play Frankie Valli, Piazza would play Tommy Devito, Lomenda would play Nick Massi and Bergen would play Bob Gaudio.

King has been working to get the film version made since 2010, and originally had tapped Jon Favreau to direct. But the film was later put in turnaround when a budget couldn’t be agreed on, and Favreau left the project. Warner picked up the film version again after Eastwood signed on to direct earlier this year. However, no official start date for filming has been announced. John Logan, known recently for writing “Skyfall,” reportedly penned the script for the movie version.

“Jersey Boys” first opened on Broadway in 2005 and has been a hit ever since. It tells the story of the rise of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and of courses uses plenty of the group’s hits, including “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Oh What a Night,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Dawn” and “Sherry.” In addition to the Broadway production, the musical currently has productions playing in London, Las Vegas, South Africa and the Netherlands. Additionally, a North American tour is ongoing.
