‘Evita’ Tour to Star Carolina Bowman, Josh Young, Sean MacLaughlin
The final performance of the Broadway revival of “Evita” came back at the end of January, but a new national tour is just getting ready to begin. And it has now been revealed that the traveling production will star Caroline Bowman, Josh Young and Sean MacLaughlin.
Bowman, best known for her role in “Kinky Boots” will star as Eva Peron, with Tony-nominee Young as Che and MacLaughlin as Juan Peron. Additionally, Desi Oakley will serve as the alternate for Eva Peron, while Christopher Johnstone will play Magaldi and Krystina Alabado will perform as the Mistress.
The tour kicks off with a Providence, R.I. engagement running September 8-14, and the tour is currently scheduled to run at least through a Greenville, S.C. engagement June 24-29. Other cities on the schedule include Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Orlando, and Atlanta. Here’s how the recent revival was described on its official website.
Eva Perón used her smarts and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. Evita tells Eva’s passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater’s most beautiful songs, including “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “High Flying, Adored.”
The production ran for 337 regular performances and 26 previews at the Marquis Theatre and starred Ricky Martin, Elena Roger and Michael Cerveris. The production of the musical is directed by Michael Grandage and choreographed by Rob Ashford.
Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the original production of the musical opened at London’s West End in 1978, and premiered on Broadway the following year.
