“While the terror and mystery may have been extracted from Wicked in order to appeal to a wider audience, the basic story remains. Maguire’s novel is daring but ultimately too complex as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. Schwartz and Holzman have brought back the wonder and magic that fantasy fans crave while providing enough new information to underscore the known and make for a Wicked good night at the theater.” – David J. Meyer of Broadway Spotted

“While “Wicked” delivers on a purely sensual level, those who decided to use more of their cerebral cortex can see and hear things of more substance in this tale of Oz before Dorothy dropped in from Kansas.” – Bill Blankenship of CJ Online

“To nitpick is a critic’s prerogative and I still find this show too long, with a score that turns to hyper-melodrama when a memorable melody can’t be found.” – Robert Trussell of Kansas City Star
